Elesha Merritt, a single mother of two, embodies the belief that knowledge is the one thing no one can take from you. Growing up, she was taught to seek knowledge in a world full of continuous change. Despite facing numerous challenges, including a tumultuous family background, Elesha has shown incredible resilience and determination.

At eighteen, Elesha graduated high school, determined to break away from the dysfunction and criminal engagement that plagued her family. Her mother, despite her struggles, always ensured Elesha started her day with a positive mindset. Her grandparents, Hondria and Aaron Johnson, supported her dreams, whether she wanted to be a seamstress or a famous singer.

Elesha’s journey was not easy. She faced abusive partners and financial and emotional strain, but she never gave up. She earned her associate degree in criminal justice while raising her children and continued to pursue certifications to support her family. Now, she is determined to complete her education and work in the juvenile justice system, showing her children that they can achieve their dreams too.
