Together, we strengthen families

P.O.W.E.R. Uplift: Mentoring & Academic Support

Purpose: To stand in the gap for students who need consistent encouragement, academic support, and positive role models.

What It Does:

  • Provides one‑on‑one or small‑group mentoring for students referred by Wake and Durham County public schools

  • Offers tutoring in core subjects to help students strengthen academic confidence

  • Supports social–emotional development through relationship‑building and goal‑setting

  • Partners directly with school counselors, social workers, and teachers to meet real-time student needs​

Who It Serves: Students in grades K–12 who are identified by school staff as needing additional academic or emotional support.

Impact Focus: Confidence, academic growth, and consistent adult support.

  • College tours for single-parent families

  • Scholarship support

  • Workshops on FAFSA, applications, and career exploration

  • Weekend or after-school pop-up sessions

Purpose: To ensure that every child shows up to school with dignity, confidence, and the essentials they need to thrive.​​

What It Does:

  • Provides gently worn or new clothing, shoes, and school uniforms to students in public and private schools

  • Supports families experiencing financial hardship or sudden transitions

  • Partners with schools like Bugg Elementary and KIPP Durham College Prep to identify students in need

  • Hosts seasonal clothing drives and uniform donation campaigns​

Who It Serves: Families in Wake and Durham Counties who need immediate clothing support for their children.​

Impact Focus: Confidence, dignity, and equitable access to school readiness.

POWER Financial Foundations:

The 4 Pillars of Financial Literacy

Purpose:  
To equip youth, parents, and families with the knowledge, confidence, and practical tools needed to build long‑term financial stability and generational wealth.

The Four Pillars:

1. Budgeting & Money Management

  • Teaches families how to create realistic budgets

  • Helps youth understand needs vs. wants

  • Introduces simple tools for tracking spending

  • Builds confidence in day‑to‑day financial decision‑making

2. Saving & Building Emergency Funds

  • Encourages consistent saving habits

  • Explains the importance of emergency funds

  • Offers strategies for saving on any income level

  • Helps families set short‑ and long‑term financial goals

3. Credit, Debt & Responsible Borrowing

  • Breaks down how credit scores work

  • Teaches responsible borrowing and avoiding predatory lending

  • Helps families understand loans, interest, and repayment

  • Supports parents and young adults in building healthy credit

4. Investing & Wealth Building Basics

  • Introduces simple investment concepts

  • Explains stocks, retirement accounts, and compound interest

  • Helps families understand how wealth grows over time

  • Encourages long‑term thinking and generational planning
